10th Anniversary of Salt Lake 2002 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games Retrospective

This year marks the 10^th anniversary of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In connection with a number of events and activities celebrating the Olympic Games, an exhibit of official Olympic photographs and memorabilia will be on display at the Kimball Art Center. In addition, an Olympic community wall will be featured on the lower level of the Kimball where members of the community can post copies of their own photographs and stories sharing their Olympic experiences.

Opening reception on Wednesday, February 1 from 5-7 p.m. with an Olympic athlete autograph session from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Olympic Athlete Night on Thursday, March 22 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Carl Richards’s simple sketches make complex financial concepts easy to understand for thousands of people every week on the Bucks blog on the NYTimes.com. Richards’ art, which is part of a larger movement that he refers to as Visualizing Finance, will also appear in his first book, The Behavior Gap: Simple Ways To Stop Doing Dumb Things With Money (Portfolio/Penguin, January 2012). The Kimball Art Center is the first venue to present Richards’ sketches in an exhibition that coincides with the release of two catalogues of his work. The work of freelance artists from major publications such as The Economist will also appear in the exhibition.

SCI Institute: The Art of Science

Leondardo da Vinci said, "Study the science of art and the art of science." As internationally recognized leaders in scientific visualization, researchers at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah, work constantly to develop new and better ways to visualize and communicate the results of scientific inquiry. Although their visual designs are created to serve science, many of SCI's visualizations of computer simulations in combustion or bioelectric activity in the heart and brain, or of data ranging from a galactic scale down to a cellular level, can also be viewed as works of art.
