Thursday, February 25, 6:30 p.m.

John Helton’s work in sculpture, design and paintings has been described as “spectacular” and “mesmerizing” and has been seen in numerous publications and exhibitions through the West. His artwork is inspired by nature, but in particular, the unseen aspects of nature. “I believe there is an infinite and symbiotic network of forces and conditions,” John says, “interacting and affecting each other everywhere, all of the time, creating a vast symphony of energy which is our world.”

Please join the Kimball Art Center and Summit Sotheby’s International Realty for an Art Talk by abstract sculptor John Helton as he discusses art and abstract art in general, and the process of translating ideas into form. Using images of his pieces, he will explain how and where he finds inspiration and the ideas behind his work, including the process of creation, the use of materials, and the many decisions along the way that go into creating a single work of art.

After receiving a BFA from Parson’s School of Design in NYC, John Helton came to visit Park City and ski the “greatest snow on earth,” and he has been here ever since creating sculptures and fine art furniture for over 20 years. John is known throughout the West for his masterfully crafted work and unique vision. Find out more about John on his Web site.

February 6 – April 18, 2010

Just as the Rocky Mountains are a Continental Divide, the border between the United States and Mexico is an Inter-Continental Divide. Internationally recognized artists, Einar and Jamex de la Torre live and work on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border providing them with an insider-outsider perspective. Their blown glass and mixed media work examines and confronts the complexities of this geographical, cultural and historical divide with a sense of humor that is playful, yet compelling.

Einar and Jamex de la Torre are the recent recipients of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and the Joan Mitchell Grant. Their public art projects include the Phoenix Civic Center Plaza, City of Phoenix Valley Metro Station, and San Diego’s New Central Library. Their art is in the private collections of Sandra Cisneros, Elton John, Cheech Marin, Terry McMillan and Quincy Troupe.

Please join us for an opening reception with the de la Torre brothers on Saturday, February 6, 2010.
