Kimball Art Center | Young Artists' Academy | Kimball Art Center

Many things interested me in art. One of them is that my older sisters were in a lot of art classes and always doing paintings, drawings and things at home when they were in high school. When I was a little kid, I remember my grandma had some of my uncle’s complex drawings around the house. I thought this was all very cool and interesting to create something totally new that no one ever had before and the idea of drawing whatever popped into your imagination. I have always liked looking at art, drawing, and getting inspiration from anything I can.

When I was younger I watched some of my family members play instruments. I really liked music so I thought I would like to play an instrument. After I begged and begged my parents for lessons and I finally started with music, I really liked it and decided I wanted to try more arts. So, I took a few art classes and I loved it from the start. I never really liked sports so art just became what I liked to do in my free time.

For me the Young Artists’ Academy means better opportunities for things that I may want to do in the future. I think that it is a really good thing to interact with other kids in the area instead of just sitting at home, having no new ideas and no one to work with. I am excited to start learning different media that I haven’t tried before or that I’m not very good at. It is really expensive to pay for all the materials we need and the tools we use so I am glad that we have all this great stuff to work with at the Art Academy. The Academy helps us learn a lot more and improve more than we would on our own without any instruction.

I’m not really sure what I want to do in the future, but I know I want to do something with art. I have changed my mind so many times on what I want to do and what I want to be. I can’t think ahead that far to what I’m going to want to do in a few years. I have always been interested in anything having to do with art and by now I’m sure I’ll end up doing something with it in the future.
