Kimball Art Center | Young Artists' Academy | Emma Johnson

When I was a kid my babysitter was really artsy and every time she would come over she would bring a craft. I would watch her draw and I always used to say to myself “I want to do that”.

I knew I wanted art to be a part of my life when I took color theory in the seventh grade. My art teacher, Debra Corrigan was really passionate and she taught me to look at almost everything as art. I began to see the beauty in the simple things. I started to draw everything in sight, and now I always carry a miniature sketchbook with me everywhere I go.

The YAA is the highlight of my week. I can always look forward to fun projects in which I can express my creativity. It is such a good opportunity and I am glad I am a part of it.

I would really like to keep art in my life. I am looking into being an art education major. I want to keep on improving my skills as an artist and learn more about art history and famous artists.
