The Kimball Art Center offers classes in a variety of media. From drawing and painting to jewelry and sculpture, the Kimball’s instructors know how to do it all and bring years of professional experience with them. Take a class at the Kimball and enter a world of art!
Jewelry
Jewelry is any ornaments for personal adornment, such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings and more. Jewelry can be made of silver, copper, recycled materials, glass, plastic and precious metal clay (PMC). In some cases precious stones are added to jewelry.
Ceramics
Ceramics is the art of making objects out of clay. Ceramics can include wheel-throwing, hand-building and clay sculpture. In ceramics students can make anything from bowls, mugs and vessels, to one-of-a-kind sculptures.
Painting
Painting is the art of covering a surface with paint to create a piece of art. There are three different types of paint which include: acrylic painting, oil painting and watercolor painting.
Drawing and Illustration
Drawing is the art of creating or composing with lines. Drawing can include sketching, gesture drawing, figurative drawing and still life drawing. There are many different types of drawing materials from pencils and charcoal to Conte Crayon, pastels, pen, ink and markers.
Photography
Photography is the art and scientific process of producing images of objects on light sensitized surfaces by the chemical action of light or other forms of radiant energy. There are three types of photography; traditional darkroom photography, digital photography, and alternative process photography.
Mixed Media
Mixed media is using various artistic media in a single combination. Mixed media can include a wide variety of techniques and materials such as textures, patterns, designs, painting, drawing, ceramics and more.
Fabric and Textiles
Fabrics and textiles are the art of creating cloth or goods by knitting, weaving or felting. In some cases this includes dying fabrics.
Printmaking
Printmaking is the art of making prints, including etchings, engravings, wood cuts, linoleum cuts, and transfers by hand and in limited editions. Prints are pulled from a plate that the artist designs.
Glass
Glass Art is the art of making functional and non-functional 2D or 3D work from glass. Glass can be fused, stained and blown.
Sculpture
Sculpture is the art of carving, modeling, welding or producing a figurative or abstract piece of art in three dimensions (3D). Sculpture can be made out of many different materials such as wood, metal, clay and found objects.
