Emily McLean and Stringer Belle

Born and raised in Connecticut, Emily moved to the Bronx at age 16 to attend college at Fordham University. After one semester, she quickly decided to align her studies with her passion in music, and transferred to the New School University. Emily graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music, with a Jazz concentration, in May of 2009. Emily currently resides in San Francisco, CA, she just finished her first solo, self-produced EP (PS1*EP). She is also recording and performing with two other SF based bands, Stringer Belle and todayokay.
Stringer Belle was unofficially born out of a jam session in Philadelphia in 2002, when Matt McLean put music to the song “Discover Yourself”, which his sister Emily had written earlier that year at age 13. 6 years later, they have released their first EP “Pillowblock”, recorded in a closet-sized studio in Matt’s San Francisco apartment over the span of 7 days. Matt and Emily have very similar musical roots - based heavily on their father’s acoustic guitar playing - yet very different musical training and backgrounds. Emily started singing at a young age and has dabbled in flute, piano, and guitar over the years. She resides in Brooklyn and performs in and around NYC. Matt picked up the guitar at age 19, and has written and performed solo music as well as played in local bay area bands.
